Kyle is originally from Houston, Texas and Michelle is from Maine. They met at Oral Roberts University in 2011 where Kyle was studying music education and Michelle was studying engineering and missions.
They both grew up in church and knew they desired to be missionaries together while dating, before they got married in 2015. They have been small group and Bible study leaders, children’s ministry helpers, and served on several mission trips to Japan and elsewhere. Kyle has been involved with church music ministry for most of his adult life and likes working with kids and making friends wherever he goes.
Michelle has a passion for theology and sharing the word of God, and also enjoys language, and baking as a form of hospitality. They also started a coffee shop in Maine which ran successfully for 3.5 years before they moved on to focus on preparing for the mission field.
In Japan, they hope to reach out to families, children, the elderly, and whoever God leads them to, perhaps also incorporating pop-up cafe ministry events as an outreach tool.
They love inviting people into their home as well as working in small group, visitation, or other settings where prayer and sharing God’s Word can take place in a more focused and interpersonal way.
They are still working on preparing and fundraising, but hope to be able to move to Japan around Fall of 2024 as God opens doors.
As first term missionaries, their initial focuses on the field will include:
- Japanese study
- Attending and contributing to the worship services and/or Sunday Schools within the Kita Sanriku Christ Church multi-site church plant.
- Assisting with the Kita Sanriku Christ Church ministry in worship service locations, neighborhood small outreach groups, and communities throughout the Iwaizumi Town and Tanohata Village, Fudai Village, and Noda Village area
- They will also participate in most aspects of the Rural Japan Church Planter Training Center.
